August Home Maintenance E-minder

Yep, it's hot in August. So, I pushed some of your home-maintenance chores to October.  As long as you have your hurricane/emergency kit ready and waiting and a good supply of water, there are only a few things to check around your house.  If that kit isn't in shape, see the page I have on my site:  http://www.windyshomesite.com/Hurricane.htm.

Inside: 

• Test all ground fault interrupters, especially after electrical storms.
• Inspect all electrical cords for wear and replace if needed.
• Inspect washer hoses & dryer vents, inside and out.
• Check pressure levels in fire extinguishers and service if needed.

Outside:

• Have all propane tanks filled.
• Flush water heater as needed. Be sure to turn off power to water heater before draining and refill before restoring power.
• Test garage door opener.
