Hurricane / Emergency Preparedness
Hurricane season in Hampton Roads runs from June 1st to November 30th. Developing a Family Disaster Plan and stocking an emergency supply kit in advance of the season will keep you from making hasty decisions avoiding the rush for supplies before a storm. I also encourage you to have a family discussion about where you might go during an evacuation (for hurricanes or other emergencies).
The Virginia Beach government website is an excellent source for all of the questions you could have. Find out the evacuation plan from your specific property, obtain safety precautions for boating enthusiasts, learn how to best care for your pets or farm animals, and obtain the Family Disaster Plan. Please use it and then enjoy the summer and fall knowing you are ready if a situation arise!
